Reclaim Detoxification

Are you tired of being tired? Yea, I sure was.

You have probably heard of an anti-inflammatory diet or ketogenic diet, or maybe even paleo. These are ways people choose to eat. Choosing to eat within specific guidelines may provide significant health benefits. This varies person to person. So, does the term detoxification fall into the diet world? NO. I will repeat this very loudly, NO.

Detoxification is not a diet.

Systemic detoxification can not be achieved with a 3-day juice cleanse. It can not be achieved by sitting in a sauna once a week. Can these support your health, sure- maybe! But, does it fully support how your liver processes chemicals and toxins every day? No.

So let’s dive in.

What is detoxification? (hint: it’s not a diet)
Detoxification is defined as a natural process, performed by the liver, that removes the toxic quality of a substance. The specific biochemical process is known as biotransformation. This process requires a lot of nutrients and quality enzymes. If a body is blocking the availability for these nutrients or if it doesn’t receive enough nutrients, the removal of a toxin will not occur optimally.

Nutrients that support the liver’s detoxification process: vitamin A, iron, magnesium, vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5,  phosphatidylcholine,
acetyl CoA, glycine, glutamine, taurine

If detoxification is not a diet, what is it?
Detoxification is a lifestyle. The goal of this lifestyle is to reduce our toxin burden. Think about it this way: our bodies have the ability to store toxins in our fat cells. So overtime, chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, hormones, and even plastics, will be stored. This toxic burden stored in our body will slow down our biotransformation process. These stored toxins will interfere with our hormone system, nervous system, and immune system.

So what do we do?
We choose to live a life that supports reducing our toxic burden.

What does this look like?
Well it’s pretty simple.

1. Start with your mindset. Relax. Take a big deep breath and relax. A body that is stressed has a tendency to live in sympathetic overdrive (fight and flight mode). This isn’t supporting your detoxification process. Choose something to mellow you out. Meditation, aromatherapy, just laying down for 5 minutes in silence, this could be coloring. Really, anything that brings your intensity down.

2. Ditch and Switch. Look at your labels of household and body care products. (Feel free to download my FREE non-toxic guidebook to help with this). I stay away from chemicals in my laundry detergent, deodorant, hand soap, make up.

3. Support your nutrients. If you’re on medication, talk with your healthcare provider to learn if there are any medication/nutrient interactions occurring. These are very common. My favorite resource to help me navigate this is mytavin.com.

4. Watch out for sugar! Yikes. Sugar is a tough one, especially artificial sweeteners, like Splenda. This has a negative impact on your intestinal tract which interferes with the success of your detoxification pathways.

5. Air purifier. I absolutely love our Blue Air purifier. On a daily basis, we breathe in over 220 million particles, so let’s make sure they are clean! When shopping for purifiers, you want one that exchanges the air every 20 minutes.

Choosing to live a detoxed lifestyle supports your health in many ways! Excess toxins in the body have been linked to symptoms like eczema, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, infertility, PMS, hair loss, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, migraines, and IBS.
